Amazon launched their Prime membership last year in India and I’ve been using it for the past 1 year and based on my 1-year experience if you ask me if it is worth paying ₹499 / ₹999 (You can get ₹500 Cashback in your Amazon Pay wallet), I would say, Absolutely yes. First, let’s see what are the benefits of Prime Membership.
Free delivery on all products Fulfilled by Amazon and most of the high moving products are fulfilled by Amazon.
Free One Day and Two day delivery on eligible products and pin codes, for which you have to pay extra if you are not a prime member.
Early access to deals and special offers for Prime members.
And my favorite, unlimited access to Amazon Prime Video which includes a lot of Hollywood movies and popular TV series
Should you go for it?
You should. If you are a heavy shopper and you are based in any of the metros, then you can get free fast delivery and it’s more than worth.
Even for a normal shopper like me who happened to order 7-8 wall stickers worth ₹79 each and a few other low costs (ultra cheap) items in the recently concluded Great Indian Shopping Festival, if I calculate the shipping costs I have saved, it exceeds the cost of Prime Membership and I have ordered several other items throughout the year.
Not to mention the unlimited access to Amazon Prime videos. I’m a big fan of Hollywood movies and TV series, and they have a large collection and a few original productions too, even though it can’t be compared with the Netflix collection, when you compare it to the subscription price of Netflix (lowest plan starts at ₹500 per month), then it’s a great steal and it suffices to say it’s better than going for the paid version of Hotstar (₹199 per month).
They have a few Bollywood and regional language collections too but it’s comparatively less and is in the process of growing them. Their original Indian productions are a treat to watch.
